Peter Politis, 2008 runner up Barra Classic Champion Angler, took the invitation to go over to Florida and compete in the IGFA World Championships after John Millyard was unable to attend is firmly seated in first place after day one of the Championships.
Peter landed three redfish and three Snook for a total of 600pts and in tied first position at the end of the day. Peter’s representing the Barra Classic and Darwin Game Fishing Club so we wish him all the best—get into em!!!

The 2009 Barra Classic finished today with mixed team Wilson Barradise Boys, comprising Jamie Ware, Greg Herdson and Kord Luckus, moving from yesterday’s second placing to get over the line with a great day on the water. They scored 955 points for the day, resulting in a 360 point win over second place team Mongrels, with skipper Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall, on 3220 points.
Yesterday’s leader, visiting team Wrecktem (Paul Simpson, Ralph Gray and Joe Smith) could only manage 390 points today and finished in third place with 3195 points.
The Champion Angler for the tournament was Wrecktem’s skipper, Paul Simpson on 1745 points, only 30 points ahead of Evinrude ETEC’s, Peter Politis. Local angler Matt West was third on 1705 points. .
Justin Jones from Classic Nitro Boys took out honours for the Most Meritorious Capture award for the biggest fish, which he caught on the third day of the tournament, at 99cm.
The Champion lady angler was Marion Washington from Takin A Punt on 945 points.
A total of 1352 barra were tagged and released during the tournament.

A steady day’s fishing saw 280 fish caught with visitor Denis Piggot from Afghan Camels catching the biggest barra of 92cm. The Champion Angler for the second day running was Matt West of Mongrels, with a total of 565 points.Visiting team, Wrecktem, remain in the lead for the third day running with skipper Paul Simpson, Joe Smith and Ralph Grey. They have scored a total of 2805 points to date, only 180 point ahead of second. Mixed team Wilson Barradise Boys moved up one place to second spot, with skipper Jamie Ware, and Kord Luckus both scoring particularly well. Only 10 points behind are Mongrels, thanks to another great day by Champion Angler Matt West.
Champion lady angler was Nat Ker with 340 points.

Another good day on the Daly River half-way through the 2009 Barra Classic. 270 fish were caught with the biggest barra of 99cm, being registered by local Justin Jones from Classic Nitro Boys. This brings the total fish caught so far to 772.
The Champion Angler award was won by Matt West with a total of 670 points.
Champion lady angler was Marion Washington from Takin A Punt on 160 points. Marion also won an electric motor for catching the first tagged fish.
There were no changes to the first two placings from Day two, with visiting team Wrecktem, (Paul Simpson, Ralph Grey and Joe Smith) retaining their place at the top of the scoreboard with 2185 points and mixed team Wilson Barradise Boys (Jamie Ware, Greg Herdson and Kord Luckus) keeping second place with 1745 points.
Classic Nitro Boys, comprising John Millyard, Justin Jones and Trevor Robb were the big movers of day three, moving from 19th to 3rd.

Day two was an even better day than yesterday with 269 barra caught, bringing the Classic total so far to 502. Catch of the day was a 94cm barra, caught by Kevin Bell from team Daly Dogs. The Champion Angler for the day was Paul Simpson from visiting team Wrecktem, who amassed a total of 765 points.Taking over the lead today is visiting team, Wrecktem on 1370 points, helped along nicely by champion angler for the day, skipper Paul Simpson, with good contributions by teammates Ralph Grey and Joe Smith.
Leader from day one, Takin A are in second position, just 70 points behind, with skipper Peter Washington having a great day with 400 points. Mixed team, Wilson Barradise Boys are a further 25 points behind in third position, with a great day’s fishing from skipper Jamie Ware who netted 590 points, with teammates Greg Herdson and Kord Luckus both in the top 20 for the day. .
Champion lady angler for the day was local angler, Tiina Moyle from Sister Act with 125 points..

Today was a great start to the Darwin Game Fishing Club’s 28th Barra Classic. Skipper from last year’s winning team, John Millyard, fired the cannon and the sailpast commenced just after 7.00am.
230 fish were caught with Steve Cupo tagging the biggest barra of 91cm. Damien Bode took out the award for Champion Angler with 465 points. Lady Champion Angler of the Day, was Marion Washington with a total of 375 points.
First placed team is Takin A Punt, with skipper Peter Washington, Marion Washington and David Green, amassing a total of 765 points, just 75 points ahead of Green Hornets, comprising Josh and Nat Ker and Marty Brain. Third place is Barramatta, another 20 points further back, with skipper Dallas Smith, Sean Ferme and David Davidson.
