29TH BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – FINAL

April 28th, 2010

The 2010 Barra Classic finished today with local team Mongrels, comprising Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall, retaining the lead they set on Day Two of the competition. They scored 550 points for the day, resulting in a 770 point win over second place team Classic Warlocks, with skipper John Millyard, Trevor Robb and Justin Jones on 1375 points.

Mixed team Full Boar, with Travis Leine, Glen Schluter and Brett Warren finished in third place with 925 points.

The Champion Angler for the tournament was Mongrels’ Matt West on 1185 points, 495 points ahead of Full Boar’s Glen Schluter and 10 points further back was Classic Warlock’s Trevor Robb.               .

Jeff Wenban from XXXX took out honours for the Most Meritorious Capture award for the biggest fish, which he caught on the last day of the tournament, at 106cm.

The Champion lady angler was Leeann Payne from Team Platypus.

The recent rains resulted in some of the toughest conditions imaginable and a total of 328 barra were tagged and released during the tournament.

After two bumper years, the Daly River is getting its revenge on anglers in the 2010 NT Barra Classic. Only 46 fish were tagged and released on Day 4 of competition.
 

Glenn Schluter from Full Boar took biggest fish honours for the second time with an 87 cm fish.  Glenn was also the Champion Angler of the day.

Local team, Mongrels remain in the lead for the third day running with skipper Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall.  They have scored a total of 1595 points to date, 225 points ahead of second. Mixed team Classic Warlocks, with John Millyard, Justin Jones and Trevor Robb. A further 445 points behind in third place are debutante local team Full Boar (Travis Leine, Glenn Schluter and Brett Warren).  
 

Champion lady angler was Lesley Pidgeon.

BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – TOURNAMENT DAY 3

April 26th, 2010

Another tough day on the Daly River half-way through the 2010 Barra Classic. Only 56 fish were caught with the biggest barra of 98cm, being registered by Andrew Ettingshausen from Club Marine Scurvy Dogs. This brings the total fish caught so far to 208.
 

The Champion Angler award was won by Michael Dickinson with a total of 380 points.
 

Champion lady angler was Lesley Pidgeon from Femme Fishing.
 

There were no changes to the first two placings from Day two, with local team Mongrels (Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall) retaining their place at the top of the scoreboard  with 1320 points and mixed team Classic Warlocks (John Millyard, Trevor Robb and Justin Jones) keeping second place with 1080 points.
 

Club Marine Scurvy Dogs, comprising Wayne Baldwin, Chris Errity and Andrew Ettingshausen moved from their sixth placing of yesterday, to be in third place on 665 points.

Day two was a marginally better day than yesterday with 81 barra caught, bringing the Classic total so far to 152.  Catch of the day was a 100cm barra, caught by Glen Schluter from team Full Boar.  The Champion Angler for the day was Tom McCullough from local team Mongrels, who amassed a total of 780 points.
 

Retaining the lead today is local team, Mongrels who have put a tidy lead on the board with 1190 points, helped along nicely by champion angler for the day, skipper Tom Mccullough, with good contributions by teammates Matt West and Ben Wall.
 

In second place is Classic Warlocks on 740 points behind, comprising John Millyard, Trevor Robb and Justin Jones. Tied for third place is visiting team Pilbarians and Full Boar, courtesy of the first metre fish caught in the competition by Glen Schluter.
 

Champion lady angler for the day was local angler, Jo Moyle-Reiter from Sister Act.

29TH BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – TOURNAMENT DAY 1

April 23rd, 2010

Today was a slow start to the Darwin Game Fishing Club’s 29th Barra Classic. Darwin Game Fishing Club life member, Ron Bochow, fired the cannon and the sailpast commenced at 7.00am.

71 fish were caught with Trevor Robb  from Classic Warlocks tagging the biggest barra of 92cm. Matt West from Mongrels took out the award for Champion Angler with 265  points. Lady Champion Angler of the Day, was Tanya Urvet from Sister Act.

There is a tie at the top of the leader board with local team Mongrels (Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall) and visiting team Pilbarians (Mark Cottrell, Justin Neil and Justin Leech) both taking line honours on day one with 410 points. In third place is another visiting team Fire, with skipper Jay Wheelock, Damien Bode and Travis Brinkhuis on 335 points.

Darwin’s Peter Politis tied for 1st on day one of IGFA World Championships

Peter Politis, 2008 runner up Barra Classic Champion Angler, took the invitation to go over to Florida and compete in the IGFA World Championships after John Millyard was unable to attend is firmly seated in first place after day one of the Championships.
 

Peter landed three redfish and three Snook for a total of 600pts and in tied first position at the end of the day. Peter’s representing the Barra Classic and Darwin Game Fishing Club so we wish him all the best—get into em!!!

28TH BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – FINAL

May 26th, 2009

The 2009 Barra Classic finished today with mixed team Wilson Barradise Boys, comprising Jamie Ware, Greg Herdson and Kord Luckus, moving from yesterday’s second placing to get over the line with a great day on the water. They scored 955 points for the day, resulting in a 360 point win over second place team Mongrels, with skipper Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall, on 3220 points.
 

Yesterday’s leader, visiting team Wrecktem (Paul Simpson, Ralph Gray and Joe Smith) could only manage 390 points today and finished in third place with 3195 points.
 

The Champion Angler for the tournament was Wrecktem’s skipper, Paul Simpson on 1745 points, only 30 points ahead of Evinrude ETEC’s, Peter Politis. Local angler Matt West was third on 1705 points.               .
 

Justin Jones from Classic Nitro Boys took out honours for the Most Meritorious Capture award for the biggest fish, which he caught on the third day of the tournament, at 99cm.
 

The Champion lady angler was Marion Washington from Takin A Punt on 945 points.
 

A total of 1352 barra were tagged and released during the tournament.
